Big Mapping Class Groups
Sponsor(s): Mathematics
In this talk, we will introduce infinite-type surfaces and study their associated big mapping class groups. Although infinite-type surfaces are a natural next step in the study of surface topology, they also can be found quite frequently in the wilds of mathematics: from dynamics, to descriptive set theory, to the topology of 3-manifolds. We will discuss some of these connections as well as some of my own contributions to this vibrant area of study.
