Fostering an Equitable Climate and Culture in Your Unit
Discussions around inclusion and equity in academia reflect the ongoing challenges we experience in broader society, and faculty often hold important roles at the forefront of the discourse. In classrooms, labs, and meetings, faculty serve as the leaders who set the tone and uphold behaviors that impact the climate in their schools and departments. Faculty are also asked to consider equity and professionalism in personal and professional relationships with colleagues and collaborators, with students through classroom discourse and as mentors and as managers of staff in our academic units. In this workshop, participants will examine the current climate challenges in their departments, schools, classrooms and labs, and also discuss strategies and practice relevant skills that can lead to an improved culture in their units.
