Learn the basic elements of this fun and easy dance style, including connection, rhythm and musicality. Balboa is a fun and easy swing dance with a rich history, done to various music tempos. This class will start from scratch, assuming no prior knowledge in Balboa and not requiring any other specific dance knowledge.  We'll work on learning the basic concepts, as well as stepping stones to advanced concepts that will aid in Balboa and other dance styles. We'll also work on some other ad lib steps. This is one of three workshops offered on this day by Chris & Holly Owens, of What a Shuffle. Please see our other listings for beginner Balboa 2 and beginner Charleston, and our 8-11 p.m. swing dance on this evening (with 7 p.m. beginner swing lesson included with admission). $18; $16 members of Duke Gardens, Carolina Dance Club or Triangle Swing Dance Society, or Duke staff/students. Multi-class discounts: $32/$30 for 2 workshops; $42/$38 for 3 workshops. Pre-registration required to guarantee a spot. Parking included. To register: 919-668-1707.
