7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
John Porcellino

John Porcellino was born in Chicago in 1968 and has been writing, drawing, and publishing minicomics, comics, and graphic novels for over 25 years. His celebrated self-published series "King-Cat Comics," begun in 1989, has inspired a generation of cartoonists. According to artist Chris Ware, "John Porcellino's comics distill, in just a few lines and words, the feeling of simply being alive." His comics collection "Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man" won a 2005 Ignatz Award. His graphic novel "Thoreau at Walden" (2008) interprets the experiences of Thoreau in poetic, visual form. For his visit to Duke, Porcellino will present an illustrated reading and discuss his work with Rob Clough, who serves as comics critic at the Comics Journal and on his own blog, High-Low Comics.
