Data "problems" in historical art & markets analysis
I will speak about the challenges art & markets (DALMI) researchers face when devising analytical methods for our historical data. Taking my ongoing doctoral investigation of the paintings trade during the 17th century as a case in point, I will show the written and visual data I have harvested and collected into a database from archives, museums, churches, and private collections. I hope to discuss with the group ways of looking at these data sets in novel and creative ways. The Media Arts & Sciences Rendezvous is held every Thursday at 4:15pm on the 2nd floor of Smith Warehouse Bay 10. The goal is to foster a community of people interested in Visual Studies (as well as Wired!, DALMI, ISIS, etc). Through informal presentations and discussions of work in progress (and drinks and light snacks!) we learn about and contribute to each others' research.
