Global Health Exchange

Join us for a Global Health Exchange lecture, co-sponsored by Duke Lemur Center and Duke Global Health Institute. | About the talk: In January 2012, Duke Lemur Center began a new multi-faceted community-based approach to biodiversity conservation in the SAVA region of northeastern Madagascar. Key projects include promoting native freshwater fish farms, reforestation, environmental education, yam growing trainings, and lemur research. Recently, we have been considering incorporating more global health projects, and have already begun a family planning program in collaboration with Marie Stopes International. | About the speaker: Dr. Erik Patel is the Post-Doctoral Project Director for Duke Lemur Center¿s SAVA Conservation Project in northeastern Madagascar. He completed his PhD (Cornell 2011) on the behavioral biology of the critically endangered silky sifaka lemur (Propithecus candidus) in Marojejy National Park. He is a member of the IUCN¿s Primate Specialist Group and is the Madagascar Country Representative for Seacology, a California-based environmental ngo.
