China Stroke RECOVER Trial: Care transitions from hospital to home in poorly-resourced rural areas

Light lunch will be served. | ABOUT THE TALK: Stroke is the second cause of mortality and disability among adults worldwide. Although evidence-based guidelines supporting acute hospital care have led to improvements in some communities and regions around the globe, the provision of rehabilitation and community follow-up after an acute stroke hospitalization remains inadequate. Rural areas are particularly disadvantaged. This presentation will describe a randomized controlled trial of a nurse-led and caregiver-facilitated intervention aimed to improve outcomes with structured discharge planning, care transition, and rehabilitation protocols for stroke survivors in rural China (The RECOVER trial). | ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Janet Prvu Bettger, ScD, FAHA is an assistant professor and health services researcher at the Duke University School of Nursing and Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), and a Senior Fellow of the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development. Her research in the U.S. and abroad is dedicated to improving health care quality and care coordination for older adults with chronic conditions, particularly stroke and those at risk for functional decline or rehospitalization.
