Dr. Deanna Adkins grew up in Georgia and earned an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Georgia Institute of Technology before receiving her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. She then completed a pediatric residency as well as a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the University of North Carolina before coming to Duke in 2004. Her clinical and research interests include diabetes mellitus and related treatment technologies, including sensor-augmented pumps. She enjoys caring for children with bone diseases including osteoporosis, rickets, avascular necrosis, skeletal dysplasias, and calcium/phosphorus disorders. In addition, she manages the care of complex patients with hypothalamic/pituitary disorders (including late effects of cancer treatments), thyroid disorders (including cancer), adrenal disorders (including congenital adrenal hyperplasia), and tumors. She has special interest and expertise in sexual development, pubertal disorders, and gender disorders.
