David Pizarro, Associate Professor of Psychology at Cornell University

The Good, the Bad, and the Dirty: How emotions shape our moral and political beliefs - a lecture by Professor David Pizarro, spring 2014 Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professor. In recent years a great deal of psychological research has highlighted the powerful role emotions play in shaping our attitudes and judgments. One emotion in particular, disgust, seems to have a particularly strong influence on our judgments in the social, moral, and even political domains. Professor Pizarro will discuss the research he and his colleagues have conducted that sheds light on how basic differences in emotion can give rise to differences in our judgments about the social world that surrounds us. The Keohane Professorship was created in 20014 to recognize the remarkable contributions of Dr. Nannerl Keohane during her term as President of Duke University, and the unprecedented level of collaboration she and former UNC Chancellor James Moeser created between these two great institutions.
