Recent Projects in the DiVE Virtual Reality Lab
Please join us at this week's MA+S Rendezvous when we hear about what¿s been happening recently at Duke¿s virtual reality cave, the DiVE. There are a lot of great research projects going on, including partnerships with MA+S labs and a role in the international, high-profile Walk-Again Project! David Zielinski will discuss two of the recent projects in the DiVE virtual reality lab. The first is an input device study that compared an Xbox gamepad, an air mouse, and a DiVE wand. The second project involved our use of an OpenGL intercept technique which allows us to VR-enable closed-source software applications. He will also discuss several future projects. The goal of the MA+S Rendezvous is to create a community through: meeting face-to-face with other people who are interested in Media Arts + Sciences, sharing ideas/methods/resources, learning about the projects we're all working on, and socializing and getting to know each other better. Our featured speaker will give a short review of their project(s). Talks are very informal, often consisting of work in progress, and we encourage both "of the theory" and "of the practice" topics. The rest of the time will be open for general discussion. All those interested in Media Arts + Sciences at Duke are welcome! Drinks and light snacks are provided.
