Pushing Global Health Forward: Can the BRICS Do Heavy Lifting?
The Duke Africa Initiative, Concilium on Southern Africa, and the Department of Religion are co-sponsoring a keynote lecture by the South African Ambassador to the US, Ebrahim Rasool. Ambassador Rasool has built up extensive experience of Government having led various Departments like Health, Welfare, Finance and Economic Development. As the Premier of the Western Cape, he was instrumental in, amongst others, attracting foreign investment into the Province worth approximately $1 billion, having the highest provincial economic growth rate, and making significant strides towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.In 1998, he was the recipient of Nelson Mandela's Award for Health and Human Rights. During this talk, Ambassador Rasool will be speaking on the role of the BRICS nations in taking the lead on global health issues and initiatives. This event is free and open to the public.
