George Washington Williams: The Case of a Neglected American Hero

The fourth installment of this series features a re-broadcast of the last time Dr. Franklin participated in Wednesdays@the Center and includes his conversation with Dr. Lea Fridman, Professor of English at Kingsborough Community College. In this video, the two discuss Dr. Franklin's comprehensive biography of the pathbreaking intellectual George Washington Williams. The original event was introduced by the late Professor Srinivas Aravamudan.

George Washington Williams was an American Civil War soldier, Baptist minister, politician, lawyer, journalist, and writer who was particularly concerned with recording and preserving African-American history. In the late 1880s, Williams turned his interest to Europe and Africa to connect larger stories of global racism.

Dr. Ranjana Khanna, Director of the Franklin Humanities Institute, will introduce this event.
