Poets Cathy Park Hong & Caroline Randall Williams in Conversation: Creating Black and Asian Alliances

Join us for an intimate conversation with two American renowned poets on the state of the nation, race relations and racism, and the role of the artist in creating alliances and communities in a pandemic of polarization. The conversation will be moderated by Duke University professors Esther Kim Lee, of Asian American & Diaspora studies, and International Comparative Studies and Patrice Douglass, of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist studies.

Caroline Randall Williams is a multi-genre writer, educator, performance artist, and Cave Canem fellow in Nashville Tennessee, where she is a Writer-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University. Her work has been published and featured in various journals, essay collections, and news outlets including the New York Times, The Iowa Review, and The Massachusetts Review. Her most recent op-ed "You Want a Confederate Monument? My Body is a Confederate Monument" appeared in the New York Times.

Cathy Park Hong is the poetry editor of the New Republic and is a full professor at Rutgers-Newark University. Her latest book of creative nonfiction, Minor Feelings, was published in Spring 2020. Her prose and poetry can be found in news outlets like the New York Times, New Republic, and the Guardian, among others. Her recent interview on the rise of anti-Asian racism in the pandemic is in the Guardian.
