Join Duke Performances and Duke Islamic Studies Center for a conversation between poet Sadiyah Bashir and Rashida James-Saadiya.

Sadiyah Bashir is a freelance writer and poet. Her poetry has been showcased on various media such as: Al-Jazeera, Apple, and UNICEF. Her first self-published book entitled "Seven" explores trauma and triumph through the lens of Black Muslim womanhood.

Rashida James-Saadiya is a visual artist, writer, and cultural educator invested in transforming social perceptions through creative literature. Her work explores migration, identity, and the transmission of spirituality through poetry and song amongst Muslim women in West Africa and the American South.

This conversation is part of a week of virtual engagements with the Duke and Durham community, including local K-12 students, as part of DISC and Duke Performances' ongoing 'Building Bridges: Muslims in America' initiative
