Diverse Perspectives: Graduate Working Groups on Global Issues

Four representatives from their four Graduate Working Groups on Global Issues will discuss what their groups have done over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year. This semester's panel will feature participants from the following working groups:

¿ Duke African Graduate and Professional Students Association
¿ Graduates Engineering & Research Microbiomes
¿ Humor & Politics

Started with a Ford Foundation Grant in the mid-1990s, the Graduate Working Groups on Global Issues have been a vital part of Duke University Center for International & Global Studies programming for more than twenty years. During this time, DUCIGS has supported dozens of interdisciplinary topical working groups, which are run entirely by the graduate students themselves. The meetings serve as a forum for discussing broad global issues of interest to their members. Equally important, they provide a place for Duke graduate students to share their individual research and to gain feedback from a variety of disciplinary viewpoints. This academic year, DUCIGS is pleased to fund thirteen such groups, with three of them co-funded by The Africa Initiative and one by Global Asia Initiative. Several groups will be represented in this program.
