5:00 pm - 6:45 pm
Jessica Montell

Jessica Montell will give a view from the ground on Israel's occupation of the Palestinians, the challenges confronting the Israeli human rights community, and the work of Israeli organizations defending Palestinian human rights and Israeli democracy.

Jessica Montell is Executive Director of HaMoked, an Israeli human rights and legal aid center. In the thirty years since the organization's founding, HaMoked has provided free legal and paralegal assistance to over 100,000 Palestinians from the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. HaMoked also conducts strategic litigation to change Israeli government and military policy to better respect human rights. Ms. Montell has been a leading figure in Israeli civil society for two decades, and formerly headed B'Tselem: the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories. In 2007 she was selected by TheMarker as one of the year's "50 most influential women in Israel".
