Title: Functional Joint Stability and Injury Prevention in Athletes
Abstract: Each year millions of Americans suffer musculoskeletal injuries that cause osteoarthritis, declining health, and disability. Fortunately, these injuries are potentially preventable through identification of modifiable risk factors that inform interventions. Unfortunately, current prevention strategies have been unsuccessful. They do not account for the complex, multifactorial, and individual-specific risk for injury. Precision medicine is successfully revolutionizing the evaluation and treatment of complex medical conditions and has the potential to transform musculoskeletal injury prevention. Our long-term goal is to develop individualized interventions capable of reducing injuries. A first step towards this goal is to develop a model of injury risk identification that is multi-factorial and accounts for individual variability.
