DESCRIPTION:Bonnie Thron joined the North Carolina Symphony as Principal C
 ellist in 2000. She is an active chamber musician locally and plays frequ
 ently with the Mallarme Chamber Players. She is a member of Three For All
  which is a clarinet trio with her husband\, clarinetist Fred Jacobowitz 
 and pianist Anatoly Larkin. During the summertime Bonnie has been a guest
  artist with the Sebago Long Lake Music Festival in Harrison Maine for ov
 er 20 years. She has also been a regular guest on the Washington Musica V
 iva series. Previously Bonnie was a member of the Peabody Trio\, in resid
 ence at the Peabody Institute\, during which time the group won the Naumb
 erg chamber music competition. Early in her career Bonnie was assistant p
 rincipal cellist of the Denver Symphony and she played and recorded with 
 the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble. Bonnie has performed concertos with the Nor
 th Carolina Symphony\, the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble\, the Juilliard Orche
 stra\, the Panama National Orchestra\, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra\, a
 nd various other orchestras in North Carolina and her original home state
  of New Hampshire. She received both a bachelors and a masters degree fro
 m the Juilliard School. Her teachers include Lynn Harrell\, Norman Fische
 r and Elsa Hilger.

DESCRIPTION:Ari Streisfeld of the Duo Cortona treats the Department of Mus
 ic to a violin masterclass\, where he will provide feedback to the class 
 participants.\n\nViolinist Ari Streisfeld has garnered critical acclaim w
 orldwide for his performances of diverse repertoire and has established h
 imself as one of the foremost interpreters of contemporary classical musi
 c. Praised for his "dazzling performance" by the New York Times and "scin
 tillating playing" by New York Classical Review\, Dr. Streisfeld has tour
 ed worldwide as a founding member of the world-renowned JACK Quartet. Tog
 ether with his wife\, mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway\, Dr. Streisfeld form
 ed Duo Cortona\, a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to the creation 
 of new works for the unique instrumentation of mezzo-soprano and violin. 
 He is also a member of Shir Ami\, an ensemble dedicated to the performanc
 e and preservation of Jewish art music. Dr. Streisfeld frequently collabo
 rates with some of today's leading ensembles\, including Ensemble Signal\
 , International Contemporary Ensemble\, Wordless Music Orchestra\, and We
 ekend of Chamber Music. Hailed as "imaginative" by the Los Angeles Times\
 , Dr. Streisfeld's arrangements of madrigals and motets for string quarte
 t by Machaut and Gesualdo have been performed to acclaim both at home and
  abroad. He has recorded for Mode\, Albany\, Carrier\, Innova\, Cantaloup
 e\, Another Timbre\, New Focus\, and New World Records.\n\nA passionate a
 nd committed music educator\, Dr. Streisfeld holds the position of Associ
 ate Professor of Violin and Violin Pedagogy at the University of South Ca
 rolina School of Music. He also serves as head of strings at the Carolina
  Summer Music Conservatory\, Music Director for Point CounterPoint (Vermo
 nt)\, and is on the faculty of the Cortona Sessions for New Music (Italy)

DESCRIPTION:Duo Cortona (Rachel Calloway Streisfeld and Ari Streisfeld) wi

 beratore\, and Waggoner\n\nDuo Cortona is a contemporary music ensemble d
 edicated to the creation of works for its unique instrumentation: mezzo-s
 oprano and violin.  This ensemble explores new sounds and possibilities f

 ties for both established and emerging composers through commissions\, co
 mpetitions\, educational workshops\, university residencies\, and major c
 oncert performances.\n\nDuo Cortona was founded at the Cortona Sessions f

 nn State University\, Clemson University\, Florida State University\, the

 ello for an immersive masterclass with members of the Duke Opera Theater.
  Zambello-celebrated for her bold theatrical vision and groundbreaking pr

 ses\, including the Metropolitan Opera\, Teatro alla Scala\, the Bolshoi 
 Theatre\, Covent Garden\, Munich Staatsoper\, Paris Opera\, Lyric Opera o
 f Chicago\, and the English National Opera.\n\nKnown for her vivid storyt
 elling and ability to draw deeply human performances from singers\, Zambe
