DESCRIPTION:Visualization is a powerful tool for helping us understand com
plex information quickly\, and with that power comes responsibility. Even
well-intentioned visualizations can be misleading. We will present pract
ical approaches to ensuring your visualizations are accurate\, honest\, a
nd transparent. Through group critiques we will help you recognize mislea
ding data visualization practices and identify ways to make your own visu
alizations more effective. This event is open to non-duke participants.

DESCRIPTION:Research data have value beyond their original purpose and by
sharing or "publishing" your data you can support open science\, reproduc
ibility\, and future innovation. This workshop will explore strategies an
d best practices for formally publishing your data in a data repository.
Topics covered will include new modes of publishing in academia\, the use
of data and metadata standards to support interoperability and harmoniza

DESCRIPTION:The R language has become a popular option for working with ge
ospatial data. Compared to traditional GIS software\, the code-driven app
roach of R can be more reproducible and efficient. This workshop gives pa
rticipants the skills to perform geospatial workflows entirely within R.
We will discuss how different types of geospatial data work in R\, review
useful data sources\, and walk through common examples of data operation
 s. This event is open to non-Duke participants.

DESCRIPTION:This is an intermediate {ggplot2} workshop designed both as an
exploration of different ways to visualize Likert scale survey results a
nd a tutorial on how to implement those approaches in R. We'll discuss be

way from the workshop with an expanded view of how your survey data can b

DESCRIPTION:Research data have value beyond their original purpose and by
sharing or "publishing" your data you can support open science\, reproduc
ibility\, and future innovation. This workshop will explore strategies an
d best practices for formally publishing your data in a data repository.
Topics covered will include new modes of publishing in academia\, the use
of data and metadata standards to support interoperability and harmoniza
tion\, an overview of repository options and key features\, examples of d
isciplinary repositories\, and data publishing methods to increase the im
pact of research projects and support the FAIR Guiding Principles (i.e.\,
  Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable). Participants will
engage in a break-out activity where they will practice finding and asse
ssing data repositories using their own data/research area. This event is
open to non-Duke participants. This workshop is eligible for 2 hours of
