DESCRIPTION:Join ADF for a dance performance featuring 3 renowned choreogr
aphers and student performers!\n\nThe Footprints program\, which bridges
ADF's performance series and education programs\, delivers an outstanding
presentation of three ADF-commissioned world premieres\, choreographed b
y renowned choreographers and performed with impeccable technique and inf
ectious energy by ADF students. This year's choreographers are David Dorf
man\, Dianne McIntyre\, and Kate Weare. ADF School alum and former facult
y member David Dorfman\, who founded David Dorfman Dance in 1987 to creat
e politically and socially relevant work\, is known for his movement-base
d dance theater. Dianne McIntyre\, the 2008 recipient of the American Dan
ce Festival Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Disti
nguished Teaching\, is hailed as an artistic pioneer whose individualisti
c movement style reflects her affinity for cultural histories\, personal
narratives\, and the boldness\, nuances\, discipline\, and freedom in liv
e music and poetic text. Kate Weare\, known for her startling combination

charts a contemporary view of humanism by placing women at the center of

I-Momentum of Isolation is based on social isolation and loneliness\, exp
loring objective and subjective experiences through the individual\, the
group\, and modern society-a society with shifting values and an ever-adv
ancing digital way of life. MOI places live interactive video and sound a
round the performers to shape a digital world on stage. These elements en
hance ideas on how technology influences our lives and can empower and di
sempower us. Further distilling isolation\, solo performances and the ext
ended social isolation of one character on stage are critical to the arc
of the performance. Within MOI\, one character's interactions are only wi

DESCRIPTION:Five candidates. Five rounds. Your vote. One winner.\n\nAs we
barrel towards a divisive general election\, the brilliant Belgian theate
r company Ontroerend Goed steps into the ring with a political performanc
e that takes your focus off the issues and onto the nature of democracy i
tself. Without delving into any current events or specific ideologies\, O
ntroerend Goed's Fight Night is a funny and incisive examination of democ
racy\, political passion\, and free will.\n\nIn this interactive work of
psychological theater\, five performers (or "candidates") will engage in
a variety of tactics and topics to win the evening's popular vote\, colle
cted through electronic voting devices held by each audience member. The
performance takes shape as real-time election results come in - shifting
who is on stage and revealing the unspoken thoughts and opinions of the p
eople around you. No two evenings are alike.

States of Hope\, a powerful and honest work of dance-theater\, for its h
ometown premiere. In this fully-scripted autobiographical performance\, B
oykin narrates her own journey as a dancer and artist as seven dancers mo

DESCRIPTION:A unique integration of hip-hop mixology\, new music\, dance t
heater\, and integrated media visuals\, this world premiere of time/life/
beauty by Michael Sakamoto and Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky) is inspired
by the music and artistry of legendary composer\, musician\, and activis
t Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952- 2023)\, whose long and varied career in multipl
e genres and media surpassed definition. This project channels the artist
s' shared and distinct approaches to interdisciplinary performance\, inte
 rcultural dialogue\, and social concerns.\n\nTracing Sakamoto's creative\
, cultural\, and social concerns\, the artists unpack and embody the nuan
ced connectivity among languages and forms of expression\, environment\,
science\, and culture. How do shared languages form between creators and
communities? How do individual and collective human behaviors influence e
cologies small and large? What is the relationship between community\, pl
ace\, and the larger environment over time?\n\nDuke Arts is proud to spon
sor this production and host the dance-theatre premiere of time/life/beau
 ty.
