DESCRIPTION:Lost Dog's show reveals the real story of Romeo and Juliet. It
turns out they didn't die in a tragic misunderstanding\, they grew up an
d lived happily ever after.\n\nWell\, they lived at least.\n\nNow they're
40ish\, at least one of them is in the grips of a mid-life crisis\, they
feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressu
res of being the poster couple for romantic love. They have decided to co
nfront their current struggles by putting on a performance - about themse
lves. Their therapist told them it was a terrible idea.\n\nWith Lost Dog'
s blend of dance\, theater and comedy\, this duet\, directed by Olivier A
ward-nominated Ben Duke\, takes on our cultural obsession with youth and
our inevitable issues with longevity.\n\n"A brilliant piece of dance thea
tre that's honest and insightful about long-term relationships - and very
funny" - Lyndsey Winship in The Guardian

DESCRIPTION:Join ADF for a performance by a renowned professional dance co
 mpany!\n\nIn 2017\, choreographer Lai Hung-Chung founded Hung Dance\, wit
h the name Hung symbolizing the spirit of soaring freedom. Born from an u
napologetic desire for flight\, Birdy weaves Western mythology and Easter
n traditions through stunning contemporary dance\, challenging restrictio
n through graceful movements and striking symbolism. A poetic response to
whether "every free flight is born from a restriction\," the work explor

DESCRIPTION:Join ADF for a performance by a renowned professional dance co
mpany!\n\nTo My Arms/Restore is a new two-part work embodying Doug Varone
's decades-long choreographic fascination with the profoundly emotional a
nd the immensely physical. Set to a suite of arias by G. F. Handel\, To M
y Arms builds a landscape of love and loss\, evoking a strange otherworld
of intimacy. In stark contrast\, Restore feels as if it has been ripped
 out of today's front pages\, bringing a message of community\, defiance\,
and resilience in a world recoiling and rebounding. Driven by the 21st-c
entury sound of Nico Bentley's Handel Remixed\, the score fuses Handel's
18th-century choral score Dixit Dominus with beats more commonly heard in
clubs around the globe.\n\nTickets on sale now!\n\nPhoto credit: Erin Ba

DESCRIPTION:Join ADF for maximalist professional dance performance!\n\nMOV
EMENT\, by Netta Yerushalmy\, synthesizes over one hundred citations from
an expansive range of dances across genres and cultures. It is a radical
quilt of borrowed material that stretches the idea of pluralism until it
almost snaps. It features a score by award-winning composer Paula Matthu
sen and is performed by dancers from Korea\, Senegal\, Taiwan\, and the U
 S. This piece follows Yerushalmy's PARAMODERNITIES\, a six-part series ge
nerated through reverently and violently dissecting iconic modern choreog
raphies\, provoking dynamic conversations with the troubled legacies of t
he past. MOVEMENT continues Yerushalmy's practice of repurposing\, reorie
nting\, and recontextualizing dance\, spinning fragments of seemingly unr
elated works into an enthralling new whole. This maximalist performance h
ighlights dance as an inevitable and unifying force in a brittle and conf
used world.\n\nTickets on sale now!\n\nPhoto credit: Marina Levitskaya

ADF's performance series and education programs\, delivers an outstanding
presentation of three ADF-commissioned world premieres\, choreographed b
y renowned choreographers and performed with impeccable technique and inf

man\, Dianne McIntyre\, and Kate Weare. ADF School alum and former facult
y member David Dorfman\, who founded David Dorfman Dance in 1987 to creat

I-Momentum of Isolation is based on social isolation and loneliness\, exp
loring objective and subjective experiences through the individual\, the
group\, and modern society-a society with shifting values and an ever-adv

round the performers to shape a digital world on stage. These elements en

DESCRIPTION:Five candidates. Five rounds. Your vote. One winner.\n\nAs we
barrel towards a divisive general election\, the brilliant Belgian theate
r company Ontroerend Goed steps into the ring with a political performanc
e that takes your focus off the issues and onto the nature of democracy i
tself. Without delving into any current events or specific ideologies\, O
ntroerend Goed's Fight Night is a funny and incisive examination of democ
racy\, political passion\, and free will.\n\nIn this interactive work of
psychological theater\, five performers (or "candidates") will engage in
a variety of tactics and topics to win the evening's popular vote\, colle
cted through electronic voting devices held by each audience member. The
performance takes shape as real-time election results come in - shifting
who is on stage and revealing the unspoken thoughts and opinions of the p
eople around you. No two evenings are alike.

DESCRIPTION:Durham native and former Alvin Ailey dancer Hope Boykin brings
States of Hope\, a powerful and honest work of dance-theater\, for its h
ometown premiere. In this fully-scripted autobiographical performance\, B
oykin narrates her own journey as a dancer and artist as seven dancers mo
ve on stage to an original score by Ali Jackson. Each dancer embodies ele
ments of Boykin's personality\, laying bare inner thoughts and conflict a
s they interact with each other. This profound\, ambitious\, vulnerable w
ork is a powerful excavation of an artistic life.

DESCRIPTION:GRAMMY®-winning musician Meshell Ndegeocello performs from her
newest album No More Water: The Gospel Of James Baldwin\, a striking hom
age to the eminent writer and activist James Baldwin to be released on hi
s Centennial: August 2\, 2024. The visionary work is at once a musical ex
 perience\, a church service\, a celebration\, a testimonial\, and a call
to action. With No More Water\, Ndegeocello embarks on a prophetic musica
l odyssey that transcends boundaries and genres\, delving headfirst into
race\, sexuality\, religion\, and other recurring themes explored in Bald
 win's canon. The multi-instrumentalist\, singer\, songwriter\, and produc
er renders an immersive and palpable document that is as sagacious\, unab
ashed\, and introspective as Baldwin was in life. \n\nNdegeocello will be
joined by her band and two spoken word artists for this powerful live pe
 rformance.
