DESCRIPTION:FOXP1 Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder with significant imp
 acts on neurodevelopment\, particularly on speech and language developmen
 t.  FOXP1 is amongst the most common genes associated with an autism diag
 nosis.  FOXP1 has many other significant associated conditions\, includin
 g developmental delay\, oromotor dysfunction\, repetitive behavior and AD
 HD\, anxiety disorder\, motor dysfunction\, ophthalmologic issues\, cardi
 ac abnormalities\, feeding and gastrointestinal issues\, sleeping disorde
 rs\, hypertonia\, genital anomalies\, hearing loss\, and epilepsy.  \n\nT
 hroughout the world\, different research groups have begun to study the i
 mpacts of FOXP1 mutation on the nervous and other systems and create anim
 al and cell models of FOXP1 Syndrome. Meanwhile\, clinicians have begun t
 o document patients\, common symptoms\, and evolution of the condition ov
 er time. Gene therapy approaches have been explored for similar neurodeve
 lopmental disorders\, but not yet for FOXP1. With understanding of FOXP1 
 Syndrome increasing\, and prospects for treatment of neurodevelopmental c
 onditions growing\, the time is ripe for a research symposium to present 
 and document the state of knowledge\, and foster future collaborations.\n
 \nOur goal in hosting this conference is to create a trusted environment 
 in which experts share their research and clinical experiences\, make con
 nections with others working in the field\, and embark on new collaborati
 ons. Patient and family perspectives will also be presented at the confer
 ence. There are currently no available therapies for FOXP1 Syndrome. This
  conference has the aim of fostering research to accelerate the developme
 nt of therapies to help FOXP1 families.

DESCRIPTION:The research questions Dr. Murphy's lab investigates are about
  the evolution of mammalian species\, their genomes\, and the genetic arc
 hitecture that underlies their phenotypic diversity. His laboratory integ
 rates knowledge of genome organization with phylogenetic methods to resol
 ve evolutionary relationships across the mammal family tree. Murphy's con
 tributions include establishing the phylogenetic framework for mammalian 
 comparative genomics that aided in interpreting the human genome. Within 
 this framework\, his lab answered fundamental questions about how chromos
 omes break and evolve\, when and how pivotal events in Earth's history in
 fluenced the diversification of placental mammals\, and the impacts of hy
 bridization on evolutionary inference and adaptation. Murphy has focused 
 most of his career on developing and applying comparative genomic resourc
 es for the cat family Felidae to advance basic and biomedical science res
 earch in genetic disease\, trait mapping\, and wildlife conservation.

  interface to investigate the structure-function relationship of connecti
 ons across the scales of chromatin\, synapses\, and circuits in the devel
 oping and diseased mammalian brain. Neurons exhibit elaborate structures
