 he pinnacle of German sacred music\, works whose theological depth and em
 otional resonance touch deep places in the human soul. This season\, our 
 Bach Cantata performances follow Bach's career and creative process from 
 his early days in Arnstadt\, Mühlhausen\, and Weimar\, thence to Cöthen\,
  and finally\, Leipzig.\n\nWith the theme of "Arnstadt & Mühlhausen\," th

  ich\, Herr\, zu dir / From the depths I cry to thee\n* Cantata 150: Nach
  dir\, Herr\, verlanget mich / My heart longs for thee\n* Cantata 106: Go

 's fifty-bell carillon is among the oldest and largest such instruments i

 d in honor of the late J. Samuel Hammond (1947-2021)\, University Carillo
 nneur Emeritus\, who played Duke's carillon from 1964 until his retiremen

DESCRIPTION:Alcee Chriss III opens this season's organ recital series on t
 he Aeolian organ with music by J. S. Bach\, Elgar\, Litaize\, and Rachman
 inoff. Dr. Chriss is currently Assistant Organist at Trinity Church Wall

 idence at Wesleyan University. Winner of the 2017 Canadian International

DESCRIPTION:Honor the dead with Día de los Muertos Ofrenda\, a Day of the 
 Dead altar piece\, at Duke Chapel. Guided by the expertise of local Latin
 x artists\, this ofrenda serves as a powerful homage to the rich cultural
  heritage and sacred traditions of the Day of the Dead.\n\nSeven artists 
 from the Inter-Latin American Artist Collective (ILAAC) created oversized
  calaveras\, colorfully painted skulls traditionally used to decorate ofr
 endas\, and adorned the ofrenda with traditional elements. Visitors will 
 find bright yellow and gold marigolds made of tissue paper to guide spiri
 ts to the ofrenda\, papel picado (perforated paper) that symbolizes the u
 nion between life and death\, and more.\n\nThis installation reminds visi
 tors of the importance of honoring those who came before us\, while foste
 ring a sense of togetherness and understanding across cultural boundaries
 .\n\n\nDía de los Muertos Ofrenda is created by Duke Arts in partnership 
 with the Inter-Latin American Artist Collective and presented in collabor

DESCRIPTION:Johann Sebastian Bach's church cantatas are often considered t
 he pinnacle of German sacred music\, works whose theological depth and em
 otional resonance touch deep places in the human soul. This year\, we fol
 low Bach through the various stages of his career\, from his earliest app
 ointments in Arnstadt and Mühlhausen\, to Weimar\, and to the culmination
  of his work in Leipzig. Each place and each employment offered Bach diff
 erent opportunities to focus his creative energies. The theme of this con
 cert is "Leipzig I: Reformation Music" and features these cantatas: \n\n*
