DESCRIPTION:"Deep Quantum Learning" - Quantum systems can generate pattern
 s in data that can't be generated by any classical system. Can they also 
 recognize and classify patterns that can't be found classically? If class
 ical data can be encoded in quantum states\, then quantum computers can b
 e shown to supply exponential speed ups over classical computers for a va
 riety of standard machine learning techniques\, such as regression\, grad
 ient descent\, and support vector machines. This talk addresses the use o
 f quantum computers to perform deep quantum learning\, in which adaptive 
 methods of quantum measurement and discrimination are used to find patter

DESCRIPTION:"Kirigami-Inspired Metamaterials - from Morphable Structures t
 o Soft Robots" - In the search for materials with new properties\, there 
 have been great advances in recent years aimed at the construction of mec
 hanical systems whose behaviour is governed by structure\, rather than co
 mposition. Through careful design of the material's architecture\, new ma
 terial properties have been demonstrated\, including negative Poisson's r
 atio\, high stiffness-to-weight ratio and mechanical cloaking. While orig
 inally the field focused on achieving unusual (zero or negative) values f
 or familiar mechanical parameters\, more recently it has been shown that 
 non-linearities can be exploited to further extend the design space. In t
 his talk I will focus on kirigami-inspired metamaterials\, which are prod
 uced by introducing arrays of cuts into thin sheets. First\, I will demon
 strate that instabilities triggered under uniaxial tension can be exploit
 ed to create complex 3D patterns and even to guide the formation of perma
 nent folds. Second\, I will show that such non-linear systems can be used
  to designs smart and flexible skins with anisotropic frictional properti
 es that enables a single soft actuator to propel itself. Finally\, I will
  focus on bistable kirigami metamaterials and show that they provide an i
 deal environment for the propagation non-linear waves.   Faculty host: Jo

DESCRIPTION:Algebraic varieties are geometric objects defined by polynomia
 l equations. The minimal model program (MMP) is an ambitious program that
  aims to classify algebraic varieties. According to the MMP\, there are 3
  building blocks: Fano varieties\, Calabi-Yau varieties and varieties of 
 general type which are higher dimensional analogs of Riemann Surfaces of 
 genus 0\,1 or at least 2 respectively. In this talk I will recall the gen
 eral features of the MMP and discuss recent advances in our understanding
  of varieties of general type.

DESCRIPTION:This event has been canceled due to Hurricane Dorian.\n\nThe L
 ife and Death of Turbulence\n\nTurbulence is the last great unsolved prob
 lem of classical physics. But there is no consensus on what it would mean
  to actually solve this problem. In this colloquium\, I propose that turb
 ulence is most fruitfully regarded as a problem in non-equilibrium statis
 tical mechanics\, and will show that this perspective explains turbulent 
 drag behavior measured over 80 years\, and makes predictions that have be
 en experimentally tested in 2D turbulent soap films. I will also explain 
 how this perspective is useful in understanding the laminar-turbulence tr
 ansition\, establishing it as a non-equilibrium phase transition whose cr
 itical behavior has been predicted and tested experimentally.  This work 
 connects transitional turbulence with statistical mechanics and renormali
 zation group theory\, high energy hadron scattering\, the statistics of e
 xtreme events\, and even population biology.\n\nFaculty host: Michael Rub

 re one of the leading candidates for realizing practically useful quantum
  computers. Introduction of advanced integration technologies to this tra
 ditional atomic physics research has provided an opportunity to convert a
  complex atomic physics experiment into a stand-alone programmable quantu
 m computer. In this presentation\, I will discuss the new enabling techno
 logies that changes the perception of a trapped ion system as a scalable 
 quantum computer\, and the concrete progress made to date in this endeavo

DESCRIPTION:Let X be a smooth affine algebraic variety over the field C of
  complex numbers (that is\, a smooth submanifold of C^n which can be desc
 ribed as the solutionsto a system of polynomial equations). Grothendieck 
 showed that the de Rham cohomology of X can be computed using only polyno
 mial differential forms on X. This observation was the starting point for
  the theory of algebraic de Rham cohomology\, which has proved to be a us
 eful invariant for algebraic varieties over an arbitrary field k. In the 
 case where k has positive characteristic\, Berthelot and Grothendieck int
 roduced a refinement of algebraic de Rham cohomology\, known as crystalli
 ne cohomology. In this talk\, I will review the theory of algebraic de Rh
 am cohomology and sketch an elementary construction of crystalline cohomo
 logy\, based on recent joint work with Bhargav Bhatt and Akhil Mathew.

DESCRIPTION:"The Life and Death of Turbulence"\n\nTurbulence is the last g
 reat unsolved problem of classical physics. But there is no consensus on 
 what it would mean to actually solve this problem. In this colloquium\, I
  propose that turbulence is most fruitfully regarded as a problem in non-
 equilibrium statistical mechanics\, and will show that this perspective e
 xplains turbulent drag behavior measured over 80 years\, and makes predic
 tions that have been experimentally tested in 2D turbulent soap films. I 
 will also explain how this perspective is useful in understanding the lam
 inar-turbulence transition\, establishing it as a non-equilibrium phase t
 ransition whose critical behavior has been predicted and tested experimen
 tally.  This work connects transitional turbulence with statistical mecha
 nics and renormalization group theory\, high energy hadron scattering\, t
 he statistics of extreme events\, and even population biology.\n\nFaculty

 "\n\nMuch of our success in precision calculations within the Standard Mo
 del of particle physics rely on the concept of effective field theories\,
  which allow to focus calculations on the distance scales relevant for a 
 given calculation. The journey therefore starts by introducing the genera
 l concept of effective field theories. I will provide several examples of
  how such effective field theories are used nowadays to make precise pred
 ictions for observables at the Large Hadron Collider. I will then continu
 e our trip by explaining how effective field theories help predict observ
 ables involving a large number of final state particles\, using tools com
 monly referred to as parton showers. The final destination will be the my
 sterious land of quantum computing and quantum algorithms\, where I will

DESCRIPTION:"Why Accelerators Matter - from Maria-Goeppert-Mayer to Future
  Colliders"\n\nMaria Goeppert-Mayer spent her career thinking about the l
 ifetimes of things: nuclei\, elements\, atoms\, isotopes. She used data t
 aken with a cyclotron in order to discover the nuclear shell model. Since
  then particle accelerators have come a long way. Many of the big discove
 ries in the 20th century involved one kind of accelerator of another. Pre
 sently we are sitting at the highest center of mass energy collider of al
 l time\, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN\, ringing in at  13 TeV. A num
 ber of key advances in accelerator physics were involved. At the LHC  we 
 are interested in the lifetimes of particles\, potentially new particles 
 not described by the Standard Model. And we are designing the colliders o

 ional periodicity. Smectic liquid crystals\, however\, have one-dimension
 al order\, even in three-dimensional samples. These systems\, as simple a
 s they might seem\, connect the physics of biomembranes\, superconductivi
 ty\, and even special relativity. I will provide an introduction for non-

DESCRIPTION:We consider the quotient of the Hilbert space...by the set of 
 measure preserving maps on... This is nothing but the set of Borel measur
 es of finite second moments on... We study a partial trace of the hessian
  on a subset of functions defined on the quotient space and verify a dist
 inctive smoothing effect of the "heat flows" they generate for a particul
 ar class of initial conditions. To this end\, we develop a theory of Four
 ier analysis and conic surfaces and identify a measure which allows for a

DESCRIPTION:"Laser spectroscopy of a nucleus: The search for the isomeric 
 transition in thorium-229"\n\nIn 1976 Kroger and Reich established the ex
 istence of a low-lying\, nuclear excited state in Th-229 that appeared to
  be accessible with laser technology. This discovery touched off a flurry
  of activity to perform laser spectroscopy of a nucleus\, as a laser-acce
 ssible nuclear transition would provide a host of new technological and s
 cientific applications. Despite this significant activity\, to date\, no 
 one has succeeded in actually performing laser spectroscopy on the nucleu
 s. I will discuss our efforts to do exactly this.\n\nPhoto caption: The f
 irst Th-229:LiSrAlF6 crystal ever produced. A clock based on this crystal
  could replace essentially all precision timekeeping devices.\n\nFaculty

DESCRIPTION:"Electronically integrated cell sized robots"\n\nWhat would we
  be able to do if we could build electronically integrated machines the a
 t a scale of 50 microns? At this scale\, semiconductor devices are small 
 enough that we could put the computational power of the spaceship Voyager
  onto a machine that could be injected into the body. Such robots could h
 ave on board detectors\, power sources\, and processors that enable them 
 to sense\, interact\, and control their local environment. In this talk I
  will describe several cutting edge technologies we are developing to ach

DESCRIPTION:"Calculating Nature Naturally"\n\nDriven by advances in the pr
 ecision control and manipulation of quantum systems\,  progress is being 
 made in harnessing quantum complexity to empower a new framework of compu
 ting.  With Hilbert spaces growing exponentially and a natural representa
 tion of entanglement\, such systems are viable pathways to a quantitative
 ly deeper understanding of the non perturbative phenomena of highly corre
 lated systems from QCD to quantum materials.  With this program I will di
 scuss advancements in the conceptual design and physical implementation o
 f quantum computational approaches to quantum field theories for nuclear

DESCRIPTION:"The Proton Remains Puzzling"\n\nNucleons (protons and neutron
 s) are the building blocks of atomic nuclei\, and are responsible for mor
 e than 99% of the visible matter in the universe. Despite decades of effo
 rts in studying its internal structure\, there are still a number of puzz
 les surrounding the proton such as its spin\, mass\, and charge radius. T
 he proton charge radius puzzle developed about ten years ago refers to a 
 5-7 sigma discrepancy between the ultrahigh precise values of the proton 
 charge radius determined from muonic hydrogen Lamb shift measurements and
  the CODATA values compiled from electron-proton scattering experiments a
 nd hydrogen spectroscopy measurements. In this talk I will briefly introd
 uce the proton spin and mass puzzles first. I will then focus on the prot
 on charge radius puzzle\, the latest experimental results\, and especiall
 y the PRad experiment at Jefferson Lab and its result.\n\nFaculty host: J

 nctions\n\nThe classical Liouville theorem tells us that a bounded harmon
 ic \nfunction on the plane is a constant. At the same time for any \n(arb
 itrarily small) angle on the plane there exist non-constant \nharmonic fu
 nctions that are bounded everywhere outside this angle.\nThe situation is
  completely different for discrete harmonic functions \non the standard s
 quare lattices. The following strong version of the \nLiouville theorem h
 olds on the two-dimensional lattice. If a discrete \nharmonic function is
  bounded on 99% of the lattice then it is constant.\nA simple counter-exa
 mple shows that in higher dimensions such \nimprovement is no longer true

 rom synchrotron radiation (SR) and free-electron lasers (FELs) have huge 
 impact in the recent advances in various areas of science and technology.
  Having gone through several generations of development\, research facili
 ties based on SR are currently at the 4th generation stage\, thus referre
 d to as 4GSRs. A 4GSR employs spontaneous radiation from undulators insta
 lled in an "ultimate storage ring"\, in which the phase space area of the
  electron beam is "diffraction limited" in the soft X-ray spectrum. In an
  FEL\, an electron bunch can exchange energy with a radiation pulse co-pr
 opagating in an undulator\, giving rise to radiation amplification. With 
 the advance in the linac technology for bright electron beams\, an X-ray 
 FEL (XFEL) became feasible in which the spontaneous emission is self-ampl
 ified in a long undulator by a factor about a million\, giving rise to in
 tense\, quasi-coherent X-ray pulse. The brightness of this "self-amplifie
 d-spontaneous emission" (SASE) is about the same as that of 4GSRs. We are
  about to witness the advent of XFELs driven by super-conducting RF (SCRF
 ) linacs with a repetition rate higher by three to four orders of magnitu

 How physicists can help"\n\nMost of us thought that\, with the end of the
  Cold War and the rise of democracy in Russia\, the danger of a nuclear A
 rmageddon had receded and what remained was to pilot a glide path to very
  a low level of de-alerted nuclear weaponry and strengthen the nuclear no
 nproliferation regime.  That did not happen. NATO expanded east\, democra
 cy faded in Russia\, Russia invaded Ukraine\, nuclear reductions halted\,
  the US has exited two of the three bilateral nuclear arms control agreem
 ents it has with Russia and seems on track to exit the third\, and we are
  in the midst of nuclear proliferation crises with Iran and North Korea.\
 n\nGiven this situation\, the American Physical Society has funded a proj
 ect to get physicists engaged with nuclear threat reduction again.  The p
 urpose of this talk is to provide an overview of the current situation an
 d the various proposals that are being debated to mitigate the dangers. T
 he hope is that a few physicists in the audience will consider educating 
 themselves further and then become involved in helping to educate their m
 embers of Congress. The speaker will be available for discussions before

  Electromagnetic Response in Metals"\n\nThis talk begins with an introduc
 tion to how topological phases of electrons can generate quantized respon
 ses and emergent particles such as Weyl fermions.  Various insulating top
 ological phases are known to realize unique electromagnetic couplings suc
 h as the quantum Hall effect and "axion electrodynamics"\, and understand
 ing this led to an improved understanding of polarization and magnetoelec
 tricity in all materials. The main new results are on how the recently di
 scovered topological Weyl and Dirac semimetals can show unique electromag
 netic responses. We argue that in linear response the main observable eff
 ect solves an old problem via the orbital moment of Bloch electrons\, and
  how in nonlinear optics there should be a novel approximately quantized 
 photocurrent effect. This photocurrent effect should have magnitude deter
 mined by fundamental constants\, namely the cube of electric charge\, div
 ided by the square of Planck's constant\, and may have been observed in r

 udy their associated big mapping class groups. Although infinite-type sur
 faces are a natural next step in the study of surface topology\, they als
 o can be found quite frequently in the wilds of mathematics: from dynamic
 s\, to descriptive set theory\, to the topology of 3-manifolds. We will d
 iscuss some of these connections as well as some of my own contributions 
 to this vibrant area of study.

DESCRIPTION:This talk starts by reviewing known examples of how topologica
 l materials generate new kinds of electrodynamic couplings and effects.  
 One category of topological phases can be understood in terms of nearly f
 ree electrons\, but still manage to show interesting behavior such as the
  integer quantum Hall effect.  We start with known cases and build up to 
 an understanding of how the recently discovered topological Weyl semimeta
 ls can show unique electromagnetic responses\; in nonlinear optics there 
 should be a new approximately quantized effect\, which may have been seen
  experimentally.  This nonlinear effect has a natural quantum e^3/h^2 and
  appears in chiral Weyl semimetals over a finite range of frequencies.  W
 e then turn to fractional topological phases and their possible appearanc
 e in frustrated magnets ("spin liquids").  Emerging computational techniq
 ues allow a nearly unbiased comparison of spin liquid candidates in the o
 riginal model studied by Anderson\, the triangular lattice Hubbard model\
 , and analytical methods help understand intuitively why a particular kin
 d of topological spin liquid is an attractive candidate.  We close with s
 ome comments on the remarkable recent progress in using quantum computers
  and emulators to create topological states.

DESCRIPTION:Measurement of the highly redshifted 21 cm emission line from 
 neutral hydrogen has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of 
 the universe's evolution. These measurements would map the universe's str
 ucture during the Dark Ages\, Cosmic Dawn\, and Epoch of Reionization\, w
 hen stars and galaxies first formed and ionized the intergalactic medium.
  They would reveal the effect of Dark Energy throughout cosmic history\, 
 probe the dynamics of early galaxy evolution\, and constrain Dark Matter 
 interactions. However\, 21 cm cosmology experiments have not yet overcome
  the challenges that will allow them to achieve their potential. In parti
 cular\, these experiments struggle to separate the faint cosmological sig
 nal from intervening foreground emission that is 4-5 orders of magnitude 
 brighter. I discuss recent progress constraining the 21 cm signal at high
  redshift and highlight new analysis techniques that offer a pathway to s
 uccess for 21 cm cosmology experiments.

DESCRIPTION:The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has produced images of radia
 tion from relativistic plasma very close to the horizons of two supermass
 ive black holes\; in the Galactic Center Sgr A* and M87. In this talk\, I
  will present the past and future of horizon-scale black hole images: how
  do we get them\, what have we learned\, and what will they show next? I 
 will first discuss how we reconstruct and validate images from sparse\, d
 ifficult-to-calibrate EHT data.  I will focus on the first polarized imag
 es of M87*\, which provide the most stringent constraints on a near-horiz
 on environment. Comparing polarized EHT images with a large library of ma
 gnetohydrodynamic simulations indicates that the magnetic field near M87*
  is strong\, ordered\, and dynamically important in limiting accretion an
 d launching M87's powerful relativistic jet. Finally\, I will show how fu
 ture observations of M87* with an expanded EHT array will have significan
 tly improved dynamic range and resolution. These observations will map th
 e structure and dynamics of plasma and magnetic fields from the central b
 lack hole out through the jet on larger scales. They may also reveal subs
 tructure in the strongly-lensed image\, including the black hole's 'inner
  shadow.' In the coming decade\, new EHT and multiwavelength observations
  will combine with advances in analysis techniques and simulations to ill
 uminate the black-hole jet connection\, probe relativistic plasma microph
 ysics\, and enable new tests of spacetime.

DESCRIPTION:In our exciting current era of experimental cosmology\, rapid 
 developments in instrumentation and highly sensitive superconducting dete
 ctors have provided a wealth of arcminute-scale cosmic microwave backgrou
 nd (CMB) data. These measurements are transforming our understanding of t
 he evolution of our cosmos. I will present recent results from the Atacam
 a Cosmology Telescope and discuss how our high-resolution CMB maps are at
  the frontier of Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect science. I will also summarize
  the design and status of first light instruments and low temperature det
 ectors for the CCAT Observatory and the Simons Observatory. These experim
 ents will provide unparalleled measurements of the millimeter and submill
 imeter sky\, offering rich opportunities for cross-correlation studies wi
 th upcoming surveys and paving the way towards CMB-S4\, the next-generati
 on ground-based CMB experiment. This will enable novel multifrequency sci
 ence in the coming years\, testing cosmological models and opening new wi
 ndows on galaxy evolution and fundamental physics.

DESCRIPTION:In the theory of structure formation\, early density fluctuati
 ons in cold dark matter collapsed gravitationally to form dark matter hal
 os\; this dark matter structure provides the scaffolding in which galaxie
 s form. This picture has described the observed universe phenomenally\, b
 ut tensions remain in high-z galaxy populations\, cosmological parameter 
 measurements\, and small-scale structures. My research program aims to re
 solve these problems with new tests on astrophysical scales that will be 
 accessible due to the vast increase in data from new facilities (includin
 g JWST\, Rubin\, Euclid\, and Roman) over the next decade. At high redshi
 fts\, wide surveys will allow us to measure the environments around galax
 ies and search for signatures of reionization physics. Simultaneously\, l
 arge samples of galaxy clusters will enable novel constraints on cosmolog
 ical parameters. Finally\, on dwarf galaxy scales\, we can learn about th
 e particle nature of dark matter through a better understanding of subhal
 o populations. However\, to perform these next-generation measurements\, 
 we require theoretical advances. In this talk\, I will present new tools 
 for tackling cosmological tensions using a combination of simulations\, d
 ata\, and physical insight.

 tic quantum magnets\, including quantum spin liquids\, quantum phase tran
 sitions\, and topological phenomena within condensed matter physics. Quan
 tum phase transitions represent profound shifts in material properties dr
 iven by quantum fluctuations at absolute zero temperature\, holding the p

DESCRIPTION:Emergent phenomena in strongly-correlated quantum materials ha
 ve tremendous potential for technological advancements. Significant chall
 enges are\, for example\, the understanding and design of high-temperatur
 e superconductors and systems with topological order. Strong correlations
  render mean-field and perturbative approaches inapplicable\, and\, for s
 ome of the most interesting systems\, quantum Monte Carlo is hampered by 
 the notorious sign problem. However\, the investigation of entanglement p
 roperties shows that typical many-body systems in equilibrium and after l
 ocal perturbations do not explore the entirety of the exponentially big H
 ilbert space. This led us to techniques that approximate strongly correla
 ted states by networks of tensors - so-called tensor network states. We a
 pply them in studies of condensed matter physics to investigate quantum p
 hase transitions\, dynamic response\, equilibration and thermalization\, 
 quantum transport\, as well as decoherence phenomena and nonequilibrium t
 ransitions in driven-dissipative systems.\n\nWhile computation costs of t
 ensor network methods scale polynomially instead of exponentially in the 
 system size\, classical computation has its limits and it is still diffic
 ult to assess certain phenomena in 2d and 3d systems with sufficient accu
 racy. I will discuss our recent efforts to investigate quantum materials 
 using quantum computers. A hybrid quantum-classical solver based on a mul
 ti-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) allows us to study co
 ndensed matter groundstate problems. Due to causal-cone structures of the
  MERA tensor network\, one can simulate large systems on noisy intermedia
 te-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. The number of required qubits is system-
 size independent and increases only to a logarithmic scaling when using q
 uantum amplitude estimation to speed up gradient evaluations. Our benchma
 rk simulations have established a quantum advantage for this approach. I 
 will report on first experimental implementations\, demonstrating a quant
 um phase transition on ion-trap devices of the Duke Quantum Center\, and 
 shortly comment on the question of barren plateaus.

DESCRIPTION:A fundamental aspect of a random walk is: when does it reach a
  specified position for the first time?  This first-passage time\, and mo
 re generally\, the distribution of first passage times underlies many non
 -equilibrium phenomena\, such as the triggering of integrate and fire neu
 rons\, the statistics of cell division\, and the execution of stock optio
 ns.  The computation of the first-passage time and its distribution is bo
 th simple and beautiful\, with profound connections to electrostatic pote
 ntial theory.  I will present some aspects of these fundamentals and then
  discuss two applications of first-passage ideas: the classic problem of 
 cell reception and a toy model of wealth sharing.

DESCRIPTION:A theory [1] of energy landscape in the space of electronic an
 d lattice degrees of freedom is formulated for "Mott" metal-insulator mat
 erials is formulated and argued to resolve the long-standing question of 
 the relative importance of electronic and lattice contributions in the Mo
 tt metal insulator transition. Moving beyond equilibrium\, the theory is 
 used to understand the physics of optically driven metal-insulator transi
 tions. Atomic scale calculations at equilibrium and short times are used 
 to define an energy landscape and the initial evolution of order paramete
 rs\; longer times are accessed in terms of time dependent Ginzburg-Landau
  theories. The importance of the time dependence of the landscape is high
 lighted via modeling of experiments on photo induced superconductivity in
  the LBCO system [2\,3] and the importance of electronic bottlenecks and 
 of electron-lattice effects [4] are explored in the context of a study of
  the dynamics of the photo induced metal transition in Ca2RuO4\n[1] A. Ge

DESCRIPTION:More than eighty years after the muon was discovered it is sti
 ll a source of mystery. Indeed\, experiments are underway that use muons 
 as a window to search for new particles or forces. The muon's anomalous m
 agnetic moment is a particular focus of these efforts because of a longst
 anding tension between experiment and theoretical expectations. This quan
 tity is now known with an exquisite precision of 190 parts per billion\, 
 thanks to the g-2 experiment at Fermilab\, which is on track to reach its
  precision goal of 120 part per billion in the next couple of years. The 
 theoretical calculations of the muon's magnetic moment must account for t
 he virtual effects of all particles and forces within the Standard Model\
 , where effects coming from hadrons\, governed by the strong interactions
 \, are by far the largest sources of theory uncertainty. Recent estimates
  of hadronic corrections have created puzzles on the theory side\, which 
 are currently being investigated. I will discuss the ongoing interplay be
 tween theory and experiment that is essential to unlocking the discovery 
 potential of this effort.

DESCRIPTION:The neutrino is perhaps the most enigmatic of fundamental part
 icles. Its neutral charge and astonishingly low mass make its detection\,
  and therefore its use in fundamental physics laboratories\, exceedingly 
 difficult. Despite this\, it is in the neutrino sector where we have rece
 ntly seen challenges to the long-standing Standard Model of Particle Phys
 ics. The neutrino is also an important player and messenger to the physic
 s that takes place in astrophysical environments and the early Universe-i
 t is one of the most hopeful windows to New Physics. In this talk\, I wil
 l discuss a high-risk\, high reward\, multi-decade\, world-wide research 
 program that seeks to answer many of the open questions about the neutrin
 o. What is the mass of the neutrino? Is there a 4th generation? What are 
 the sizes of the electromagnetic form factors and the effective neutrino 
 charge radius? What can it tell us about neutron skin depth and the equat
 ion of state of neutron stars? Does it play a role in the rapid process f
 or the creation of heavy elements? Is lepton number conserved? What can i
 t tell us about the weak charge? Are there any new force carriers? I will
  also touch on how these experiments can help search for the putative Dar
 k Matter in our Universe. These are some of the questions that the LEGEND
  neutrinoless double beta decay experiment\, and the COHERENT elastic neu
 trino-nucleus suite of experiments seek to answer over the next 20+ years
 .
