This event explores the connection between An gola and Brazil through the combat game of capoeira. A blend of fight\, dance\, ritual and percussive music\, capoeira has deep roots in Angola\, was developed in Brazil\, and today is globally popular. This three day event includes movement and music workshops in Angolan combat games and capoeira with guest artist-teachers from Angola and Brazil\, as well as a book launch party and performance. Th roughout history\, Black hair tells a lot about who a person is and where they come from. Today\, hair is still a sacred part of Black people's id entity within the African Diaspora. This video creates an immersive exper ience for the viewer as the hair stories are expressed through various da nce styles. The stories in the video are from interviews with Black under graduate students at Duke University. These narratives become the stories or music for the dancers. The dancers are not instructed to move any cer tain way. They interrupt the story given to them through the dancer's per sonal movement and style choice.
