 h 7th\, TIME: 6:00-7:00pm\nSanford School\, Room 03\n\nIf you could make
a change-any change you wanted-what would it be? Would it be something i
n your school or other organization? Maybe something in your community\,
industry or throughout society as a whole? If you had a magic wand that w
ould allow you to instantly change anything you wanted\, what would that
change look like?\n \nCreating true change is never easy. Most startups d
on't survive. Most community groups never get beyond small local actions.
Even when a spark catches fire and protesters swarm the streets\, it oft
en seems to fizzle out almost as fast as it started. The status quo is\,
almost by definition\, well entrenched and never gives up without a fight
.\n\nGreg Satell\, author of the groundbreaking new book\, Cascades\, wil
l be here to talk about why some movements succeed and others fail. If yo
u'd like to change the world\, or even just your little corner of it\, th
is is an event you won't want to miss.\n \nRSVP here

DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, political economist Jennifer Clapp (University
of Waterloo) explores growing corporate concentration that has become a d
ominant trend in food systems\, with a special focus on the farm inputs s
ector. The talk highlights the complex drivers of concentration as it has
unfolded over the past century\, as well as the types of power that conc
entration confers to the dominant firms in the agrifood sector. The socia
l and ecological impacts of corporate power\, and the kinds of policy res
ponses that are required to address them\, are also considered.
