Project:\nThis social documentary project pairs personal stories with pro

l meeting geared toward first-year vitreoretinal fellows\, medical retina
fellows\, and uveitis fellows training in North America. Space is also a
vailable for a limited number of international fellows. Extensive educati
onal content includes medical and surgical panel discussions\, surgical v
ideo tricks and tips\, and an unparalleled wet lab experience with access
to some of the latest technology and cutting-edge procedures with one-on
-one faculty/fellow interaction.\n\nThe Duke AVS Course\, held Friday and
Saturday\, 5/16-17\, founded by Dr. Robert Machemer\, is a biennial meet
ing open to all retina specialists around the world. The AVS course will
showcase the latest in cutting-edge vitreoretinal surgical techniques\, u
se of novel instrumentation and intraoperative visualization technology\,
as well as strategies to approach the most challenging surgical cases. T
he course consists of a series of lectures and interactive panel discussi
ons led by distinguished invited speakers from across the world and Duke

e\, funded through philanthropic gifts from grateful patient families\, d
epartment alumni and many others to honor the contributions of Andrew Ber
chuck\, MD\, brings national experts to Duke to speak on topics related t
o gynecologic oncology. It also supports the return of former department
residents and fellows to present lectures and share their experiences and
perspectives in order to foster ongoing community and connection. This i
s a fitting legacy for Dr. Berchuck\, who has contributed so much to Duke
\, the department\, our patients and the field of gynecologic oncology.\n
\nDr. Berchuck\, the James M. Ingram Distinguished Professor of Gynecolog
ic Oncology\, chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and director
of the DCI Gynecologic Cancer Disease Group\, has\, over his extraordinar
y 35-year career at Duke\, been an innovator\, leader and mentor. His wis
dom and care for our patients and mentorship of trainees have advanced ca
re for women with gynecologic cancers and helped shape the strong legacy
of the Duke Gynecologic Oncology Program and the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology. Since day one\, he's led a research program focused on t
he molecular-genetic alterations involved in the malignant transformation
of the ovarian and endometrial epithelium and has published more than 30
0 peer-reviewed papers in this subject area. He remains one of our busies
t clinicians\, providing surgical and medication management of individual
s with ovarian\, endometrial and lower genital tract cancers.

Domain-Guided Machine Learning: Trustworthy Methods for Causal Inference
and Rare Event Prediction\n\nAbstract:\nAs machine learning becomes incre
asingly capable\, it is being applied in high-stakes domains\, such as he
althcare\, public policy\, and criminal justice. My research develops mac
hine learning-aided approaches for these settings that center domain expe
rtise throughout the analysis pipeline. This goal is pursued across three
problem areas: (i) observational causal inference\, (ii) causal inferenc
e via data fusion\, and (iii) rare event prediction. By actively incorpor
ating the insights and experience of domain experts\, this work aims to h
arness the strengths of modern machine learning while promoting interpret
ability\, robustness\, and trust in the results.

ovided through Duke benefits. It includes total cholesterol\, blood press
ure\, blood glucose\, BMI\, waist circumference height\, weight and body
mass index measurements. Additionally\, there is a goal setting and refer
ral session with a nurse\, dietitian\, or fitness specialist. Many partic
ipants find the coaching session helps them get started making lifestyle
changes and connects them to LIVE FOR LIFE and community resources to sup
port them. Health Assessments are available to all active Duke employees.

learn about why good mentorship is important\, crucial components of men
torship in research\, and tips to combat poor mentorship for mentors and
mentees. Participants will discuss a case study related to a mentorship d
ilemma in small groups and as a large group.\n\nThis event is only open t
o current Duke faculty\, staff\, and students. Participation in this even
t fulfills the RCR-200 requirement for Faculty and Staff\, the
200-level NSF RECR requirement\, and the 714 RCR credit for gr
aduate students. Participants must attend for 60 minutes and participate
