DESCRIPTION:The ODE Summer Design Camp is an immersive biomedical engineer
 ing design experience. Over the course of five weeks\, participants will 
 learn about the engineering design process and use it to solve real-world
  problems through a series of design workshops\, labs\, and innovation se
 ssions. \n\nThis camp is a non-residential summer program for students fr
 om Durham and the surrounding area. Students will come to Duke's campus e
 ach day and head home at the end of the day's activities.\n\nThe next Sum

DESCRIPTION:I. Kinetic Analysis of Benzylidene Transfer from Gold(I) Carbe
 noids\nII. Kinetic Analysis of Protodeauration of β-Styrenyl Gold Complex
 es\nIII. Palladium (II) Catalyzed Homobenzylic Diazirine Activation\n\nI.
  Aliphatic and aromatic alkenes react rapidly and efficiently with the go
 ld sulfonium benzylide complex [(P)AuCHPh(SPh2)]+{B [3\,5-CF3C6H3]4− [P= 
 P (t-Bu)2o-biphenyl\;1] at room temperature via the cationic two-coordina
 te gold benzylidene complex [(P)AuCHPh]+(1.I) to form phenyclyclopropanes
 . The reactivity of p-substituted vinyl arenes toward 1.I decreased with 
 the decreasing electron donor ability of the vinyl arene and the reactivi
 ty of aliphatic alkenes toward 1.I depended strongly on the number of alk
 yl groups attached to the more substituted alkene terminus.. Benzylidene 
 transfer to vinyl arenes led to predominant formation of cis-cyclopropane
 s. All our experimental observations were consistent with a concerted\, a
 synchronous\, electrophilic benzylidene transfer mechanism.\n\nII. Treatm
 ent of gold β-styrenyl complexes (E)-(PPh3)AuC(H)═C(H)(4-C6H4X) with exce
 ss acetic acid in CD2Cl2 containing PPh3 at 4 °C led to quantitative prot
 odeauration to form the corresponding vinyl arene as the exclusive organi
 c product. Kinetic analysis of the protodeauration under these conditions
  established the rate law for the protodeauration of : rate =k[β-styrenyl
  complex][AcOH]mon\,\, and established the superior correlation of log(ko
 bs) with the Hammett σ parameter (ρ = −1.26\;R2> 0.99) These and addition
 al observations are consistent with a mechanism for the preponderation of
  complexes involving transfer of proton from monomeric acetic acid to the
  Au-C bond with concerted C-H bond formation/Au-C(σ) bond cleavage.\n\nII
 I. Treatment of homobenzylic diazirines 3-(4-chlorobenzyly)-3H-diazirine 
 and 3-benzyl-3H diazirine with a catalytic amount of PdCl2(PhCN)2 (15 mM 
 Pd) at 25 °C led to consumption of the diazirine and yielding correspondi
 ng vinyl arenes as the exclusive organic product. Kinetic analysis of thi
 s palladium catalyzed diazirine activation under these conditions establi
 shed the rate law rate = k[diazirine][Pd]. The elimination also proceeded
  using {PdCl2[π(p-chlorostyrene)}2 as a catalyst in the same conditions. 
 The mechanism is proposed to proceed through an oxidative addition\, foll
 owed by diazometallacyclobutane formation\, then expulsion of nitrogen pr
 oduces the palladium carbene\, which then proceeds through a facile 1\,2-
 elimination.

DESCRIPTION:Using supernovae of type Ia for inferring the growth rate of s
 tructure (fσ8) has seen a significant gain in interest in recent years. I
 n particular\, maximizing the potential of fσ8 constraints can be achieve
 d by coupling peculiar velocity estimators with the underlying density fi
 eld. I will present a recent software called flip (Ravoux et al. 2025\, h
 ttps://arxiv.org/abs/2501.16852)\, allowing to perform this measurement w
 ith a likelihood-based method. The mathematical framework on which flip i
 s based allows the reproduction of all the previous models of field covar
 iance for velocities and densities in an algorithmically optimized way wi
 th Hankel transforms. Furthermore\, the flip software contains improvemen
 ts such as the simultaneous inference of all nuisance parameters (includi
 ng velocity estimators)\, accounting for redshift dependence\, and extend
 ing field covariance models. An earlier software version was used to prov
 e the feasibility of measuring fσ8 on ZTF simulations (Carreres et al. 20
 23). Currently\, flip is being tested to measure fσ8 with Pantheon+ data\
 , in LSST simulations (Rosselli et al. in prep.\, Carrerres et al. in pre
 p.)\, and on simulations coupling ZTF SNIa with DESI galaxy field (Ravoux
  et al. in prep.). I will give a general presentation of the flip softwar
 e\, its core concepts\, and the results associated with the previously me
 ntioned studies.

DESCRIPTION:The ODE Summer Design Camp also functions as a professional de
 velopment and training opportunity for middle and high school STEM teache
 rs. Teachers are invited to participate in the camp to learn engineering 
 design alongside the students.\n\nTeachers are paid $5\,000 for their par
 ticipation in the summer camp and subsequent implementation of their desi
 gn-centric lesson plans. Additionally\, ODE will provide up to $1\,000 wo
 rth of supplies to support lesson plan implementation. \n\nThe next Summe
 r Design Camp takes place June 23-July 25\, 2025!
