He began his career as a documentary photographer in Shangha i in 2005\, where he lived and worked until 2016. For the past thirteen y ears\, Leleu has documented China's changing urban landscapes and the way people use\, transform\, and play with their new and old environments. H e also documented the craft of political propaganda and the many forms po litical communications take in China. He developed a body of personal wor k that blurs the boundaries between art and documentary\, as well as real ity and fiction. Today\, he works in his home region where he is currentl y restoring the farm he grew up in and that he has been documenting for a long time. Leleu is currently using the buildings of his farm to create a photo gallery and a community center where farm produce will be sold. L a Musette - Leleu's farm - will open in 2019.\n\nIn 2017\, he started to photograph the growing security infrastructure - border walls\, flooded z ones\, watchtowers - meant to deter refugees and migrants from settling i n Calais\, France. In the meantime\, he documents the Calais "jungles" - or makeshift camps - where people who risk their lives to cross the Engli sh Channel on a daily basis and where new solidarities emerge between mig rants and a local population that was itself shaped by centuries of immig ration. The exhibition evolved from the time she spent with family in the Bahamas in the summer and early fall of 2017\, anticipating and in the wa ke of two hurricanes. As Irma and Maria were devastating the Caribbean\, Galanis was also witnessing the progression of her grandmother's dementia . Incorporating archival family photos and videos as well as natural mate rials\, One Hurricane Season "likens my personal experience with my grand mother to what happened to the countries throughout the Caribbean in that hurricane season\," says Galanis. "What does it mean to wake up in a pla ce\, to wake up in a body\, that's different than it's been for its compl ete existence? It's a very personal foray into a global story."\n\nThe ai m of her larger ongoing project\, Hacking the Narrative\, "is\, during th is age of climate change\, to capture a much more nuanced Bahamian experi ence than the outward-facing story of 'island paradise' that the rest of the world gets." Believing it's just a matter of time before the Bahamas start to disappear\, Galanis wants to capture the experience of everyday Bahamians. "Our experience is not going to be told by the colonial archiv e and it's not going to be told by contemporary ad agencies because we ha ve been erased from that story. We are not there." Finding himself stationed on an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea \, he kept half-sane by filling dozens of sketchbooks with mythological a nimals\, erotic fantasies\, images of home. He discovered the ship's libr ary and\, through that\, his wish to write. Knowing when and how to display surviv al behavior is essential for fitness and requires neural activity from kn own brain regions such as the amygdala and hypothalamus. However\, the id entity of the precise neurons and circuits that generate these survival b ehaviors remains largely unknown and therefore unstudied. In the mouse\, these essential behaviors can be robustly initiated by olfactory cues. We have identified bioactive odors that now enable us to precisely stimulat e and identify the circuits across the brain that generate behavior. By m anipulating these subsets of neurons that translate a sensory signal into innate behavior we are creating a platform to begin to study the logic o f their coding under 'normal' conditions\, and how the sensory informatio n elicits variable responses depending on state\, gender\, or the complex ity of the environment. We prove a variat ional characterization of the ground state\, its uniqueness and nondegene racy\, and give a complete description of the spectrum of the linearized operator around the ground state. We prove some rigidity theorems in weig hted spaces too. Most of these results have natural counterparts in the E uclidean setting. Speculating a little\, they suggest that\, in the prese nce of a conning potential\, there should exist non-trivial waves pushed by the innitesimal generators of the Poincare group\, as in the Euclidean space there exist rotating waves following the subgroup of rotations of the Euclidean group.\nPart 2: D'Arcy Thompson's Growth and Form and some questions of John Milnor\nIn 1917\, D'Arcy Thompson published \\On growth and form"\, a book on biological shape analysis full of examples and ide as\, but with little mathematical formalism. Thompson believed that the c hanges of form across species and the growth of an individual are conform al trans-formations. More recently\, also John Milnor became interested i n the same question. Milnor made some calculations on Thompson's data usi ng invariants like the cross-ratio\, but he found contradictory results. In this talk\, we outline the possible strategies that we are trying to f ollow to attack the problem.
