Spring Research Symposium
Thursday, March 20, 2025
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Elizabeth Knippler

Join us for an inspiring in-person symposium exploring innovation and the transformative power of nurse-led models of care in advancing health equity. Engage with leading experts in thought-provoking discussions on cutting-edge strategies to ensure equitable access to care for all.

Dr. Sharron Docherty, Vice Dean of Research at DUSON, will open the event by grounding us in the science behind nurse-led models of care. This will be followed by a panel discussion led by Elizabeth Knippler, program leader of community engagement at the Duke Center for AIDS Research, delving into the methods of community-engaged research.

Our featured speaker, Dr. Jessica Castner, will highlight the critical intersection of climate change, health, and nurse-led care, showcasing innovative solutions to today's most pressing environmental health challenges.

Our DUSON community of scholars will share their insight through panel discussions in:
Rural Health Equity - Tackling disparities and expanding access
Black & Latino Family Health - Addressing systemic barriers and solutions
DUSON MURDOCK Study - Get an update on DUSON's effort to discover how social determinants of health shape health outcomes through epigenetic modifications

We will close the day with a compelling discussion on stigma and mental health, led by Dr. Lawrence Yang, exploring how we can break down barriers and build a more inclusive mental healthcare system.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation shaping the future of healthcare!
