Saturday, April 18, 2026
9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for the first symposium at Duke University exploring the dynamic intersections of Indigenous knowledge, plant-based medicines, and contemporary scientific research. This event marks the culmination of an innovative undergraduate research initiative by the Department of Religious Studies, bringing together students and scholars committed to the emerging field of psychoactive substance studies.

Throughout the day, attendees will engage with four interdisciplinary panels and cultural conversation, each featuring:

• The Ethical Use of Indigenous Sacred Plants
• Psychedelic Assisted-Therapy
• Anti-inflammatory properties of psychedelics
• The Healing Promises of Psychedelics
• Cultural Conversation with Alex Lucitante (representative of the Cofán people in Ecuador)

Together, these conversations will foster scholarly connection and cross-disciplinary dialogue in the field of Psychedelic Science.

We invite scholars, students, and community members to join us for a day of inquiry, learning, and academic conversation.
