 umppo"\n(Fred Burns\, 2023\, 28 min\, USA\, English\, DCP)\n\nBuilt from 
 over 28\,000 hand-drawn images\, "The Burial of Natty Bumppo" draws on 19
 th century cultural images of American innocence to reveal their grotesqu
 e outcomes: the enslavement of human beings\, the genocide that accompani
 ed colonization\, and the environmental degradation resulting from indust
 rialization. The film almost never made it to screen - it was rescued\, r
 estored\, and digitally mastered by filmmaker Casey Herbert in 2019\, and
  finished in 2023.\n\n"The Burial of Natty Bumppo" has been shown at the 
 Montreal International Animation Film Festival (2023) and the Bucharest I
 nternational Animation Festival (2023). It won the awards for Best Animat
 ed Short at Indie Short Fest in Los Angeles (2024)\, the California Inter
 national Film Festival (2024)\, and at the Paris International Short Awar
 ds (April 2024). Most recently if was recognized with the "Outstanding Cu
 ltural Contribution in a Short" from the Portland Festival of Cinema\, An
 imation & Technology\, and "Best Animation Short" from the Vancouver Inte
 rnational Shortfest.\n\n--\nFred Burns is an award-winning animator who t
 aught animation production\, animation history\, and live action producti
 on at Duke University. He now lives in Taos\, New Mexico\, where he draws
  and paints all day.\n\nCasey Herbert is the founder of the Flying Foto F
 actory\, an animation production studio in North Carolina. He specializes
  in 2D and 3D animation\, motion control and stop motion photography\, an
 d special venue production. His collaboration with Burns on "The Burial o
 f Natty Bumppo" dates back to the early 1980's. He is currently also a Le
