Fresh Docs Prime Film Screening

A screening of documentary shorts is presented as part of the new Fresh Docs Prime series from the Center for Documentary Studies and the Southern Documentary Fund, featuring short documentary works-in-progress by local filmmakers. Following the screenings, a moderated conversation with the filmmaker(s) provides valuable audience feedback. Tickets are free, but must be reserved (see link).

In "Santuario," Durham-based filmmakers Christine Delp and Pilar Timpane follow a small church community in Greensboro as it offers sanctuary to Juana Tobar Ortega, a Guatemalan grandmother threatened with deportation after twenty-five years of living and working in the United States.

In "The Reservoir" documentary series, Lana Garland explores the question, What does it take for black people to survive--psychologically, economically, emotionally--in Ameria today. The series looks at strategies undertaken by individuals to make their way through life. Garland is a writer/producer/director in television and film and curator of Durham's Hayti Heritage Film Festival.
