14,500 MPG: The Story of DEV's World Record

Duke Mechanical Engineer & Materials Science
Friday, February 22, 2019
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Patrick Grady | Georgia Tech

What is the ultimate limit of vehicle efficiency? In July 2018, Duke Electric Vehicles' prototype vehicle Maxwell set a new Guinness world record for efficiency at 14,500 MPG. This talk will outline some of the key innovations that enabled this, and the challenges the team faced along the way. Most importantly, how can this technology be applied in the real world, to make everyday vehicles more efficient?

Patrick Grady (E '18) was the president of DEV from 2016-2018, and led the effort to set the new world record for fuel efficiency. Currently a PhD candidate at Georgia Tech, Grady studies robotics and computer vision.
A light lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
