Chip Franzen is the Data Science Lead for Granular. He's a data scientist with interests in machine learning and statistics, working on all aspects of the machine learning pipeline. His particular interests include Bayesian optimization, computer vision, deep learning, and information theory. Outside of Data Science, he's interested in agriculture, public policy, education, finance, language, and music. His experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar was formative, and he'd like to continue to serve the public interest in some capacity. He has a bachelor's degree in the history of science from Duke and a master of science in data science from Galvanize. Granular was founded in 2014 with the mission of helping farmers run more profitable and efficient business instead of just maximizing bushels.
