Careers in Child and Family Policy

Mandy Abliedinger, BA'98, and Bonnie Delaune, PPS'14, will join us to talk about their career paths. Mandy is a senior policy director with the Alliance for Early Success. Prior to the Alliance, Mandy worked at the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation, NC Child, and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After completing her undergraduate degree at Duke, she was a Fulbright Scholar in Morocco.

Bonnie is the early childhood action plan program manager at the Durham Children's Initiative. She received her undergraduate degree in public policy from Duke and an MPA in urban and social policy at Columbia University. Bonnie previously worked with youth in Haiti, as a field organizer for a political campaign, and as a public service strategy consultant at Accenture. While a student at Duke, Bonnie served as a research assistant within the Center for Child and Family Policy.

This speaker series is for Duke students who want to learn more about careers in child and family policy. Meetings are designed to help students explore the wide range of job opportunities and careers available in the field of child and family policy while creating a network of students who share their professional interests.

At weekly meetings, we will discuss how to forge a career in policy by speaking with people doing policy work in education, health, juvenile justice, child welfare, economic security, and other areas. Learn from people who went straight into policy jobs, pursued law school, joined Teach for America, or have made a careers in academia. Speakers will talk about how they got started, about the turns they took along the way, and what they have enjoyed most. They will also share tips for launching your career and what they look for when hiring.

Boxed lunch will be served. Please register here: bit.ly/ccfpcareertalks.
