Hoof 'n' Horn presents: Spring Awakening

Sunday, February 03, 2019
2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Spring Awakening innovatively combines the storyline of Frank Wedekind's 1891 play of the same name with the musical adaptation of Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (book, lyrics). The late 19th century Germany setting and folk-infused rock score, although an unexpected pairing, vibrantly portray the experience of teenagers struggling to navigate their emerging sexualities in a repressive society. The compelling narrative of youth and rebellion earned the original Broadway production 8 Tony Awards, among various other honors.

While its long frocks and Latin recitations belong to a faraway era, Spring Awakening's themes of morality and self-discovery draw strong parallels to our own coming-of-age experiences. The stories of Wendla, Melchior, Moritz and peers provoke bittersweet reflection on the universal journey into adulthood. This winter, join us in Sheafer Lab Theater to partake in that journey.

Right after the January 27th performance, stay in the theater to join us for a talkback with cast and production council members!

CONTENT WARNING: Spring Awakening involves heavy themes including sexual assault, abuse, and suicide, as well as partial nudity. The show is not recommended for young audiences.
