Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast: Overview, Updates, and Open Trials

Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast
Wednesday, March 17, 2021
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Laura H. Rosenberger, MD, MS, FACS

This webinar will review fibroepithelial tumors such as fibroadenoma and phyllodes, discuss the pre-surgical considerations and diagnostic workup, contemporary management of margins for phyllodes tumors by grade, discuss adjuvant treatment recommendations, and discuss open clinical trials.

Fibroepithelial breast lesions are commonly managed in the community, fibroadenomas are the most common breast masses in young women, and are diagnostically challenging to distinguish from phyllodes (and other rare stromal tumors), prior to complete surgical excision. NCCN guidelines have changed in the last 6 months and Duke is a site of clinical excellence in this rare tumor, with clinical trials offered.

Learning Objectives:
1. When to have clinical suspicion of a phyllodes tumor in the pre-surgical setting
2. How to select the appropriate operation for initial excision
3. What is an appropriate margin width for a phyllodes tumor, by grade
