Carlo Dolci considered his painting to be a devotional exercise, praying with each brush stroke. He would often write a prayer on the back of a canvas, hidden in the framing. Dolci has been described as an artist "inflamed by faith." Join Rabbi Elana Friedman, Campus Rabbi for Jewish Life at Duke, who will give a talk in the galleries about finding the sacred in the everyday, as well as historical and personal examples of being driven or motivated by faith, especially to express devotion through creative means.
