Computational Microscopy Beyond Imaging. How will we build better optical brain machine interfaces?
Sponsor(s): Neurobiology
In this presentation, we will introduce new optical systems and algorithms specifically designed and optimized to execute brain interfacing tasks, with a fundamentally different approach that moves away from image acquisition and processing. We will show how it is possible to outperform traditional microscopes with designs that account for known structural properties of brain tissue, and with algorithms that leverage dynamical properties of the neural code such as spatial and temporal sparsity in optically encoded signals.
