Duke University Wind Symphony: A Grand Night

Featuring Duke University Wind Symphony alumnus DeShaun Gordon-King, flute soloist, and a world premiere by Duke graduate composer Yahn Wagner. The Duke University Wind Symphony is directed by Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant. Based in Durham, NC, DeShaun Gordon-King has given performances in Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States. He began his formal flute training at Duke University where he served as principal flute in multiple ensembles including the Duke University Wind Symphony and Duke Chamber Players. Following graduation, he moved to New York University where he earned his master degree and certificate in flute performance. Yahn Wagner is a composer based in Durham, NC, where he joined the Ph.D. program in Composition at Duke. He has been attracted to exploring the roots of Brazilian music, and the basis of what he understands to be the function of concert music. A winner of the 2015 William Klenz Prize, he was a 2010 Composer-in-Residence of Rio de Janeiro State and Culture Department. His music has been heard at festivals including the Biennials of Brazilian Contemporary Music and the Panoramas of Present-Day Brazilian Music.
