Dr. Kisha Daniels
Pedagogies of Care Lunch & Learn

Join us for the first session of our Spring 2025 Lunch & Learn series on Pedagogies of Care with Dr. Kisha Daniels, Assistant Professor of the Practice of Education and Faculty-in-Residence for the Alspaugh residence hall on Duke's campus. This series builds on the pedagogies of care summit panel of 2023 and our Spring 2024 Lunch & Learn series. We recognize "pedagogies of care" as a broad umbrella which could encompass many topics, and Dr. Daniels' session is titled "Recognizing our Learners' Humanity in our Instructional Design".

Recognizing that learners in our courses have lives outside of their academics that will inevitably impact their educational experiences is crucial in our work as educators. In this session, Dr. Daniels will discuss her experience as a Faculty-in-Residence and how it has shifted her perspective on teaching. She will share how she approaches the instructional design of her courses to more fully incorporate her students and make her courses more relevant to their lives. She will also discuss how she has begun to think about new research directions that are inclusive of approaches such as co-designing courses with students.

The format of this session will be an hour-long virtual lunch & learn, with about 30 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of discussion/Q&A. This lunch & learn will be recorded and will use Zoom auto-generated captions.
