A CMRS Roundtable

This roundtable event will feature undergraduate students from Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, and Piedmont Community College, who will make brief presentations (6-8 minutes) about finding the beautiful in a world that is increasingly blanketed in crisis. Sponsored by Duke's Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program, UNC's Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy, and Piedmont Community College's Global Distinction Program, this roundtable represents a unique opportunity for students, not just to build community across colleges and fields, but to apply their knowledge of any discipline to the predicaments we find ourselves in now.

Dinner will follow after the roundtable for participants to socialize and deepen their connections with other students.

Interested students may submit a proposal for a short paper that addresses any of the following: Beauty and nature, Beauty and art, Beauty and ethics, Beauty and crisis, Beauty and social change, The politics of beauty, The commodification of beauty, Art or nature as liberation. Submit a short description of the proposed paper (50-100 words) to Dr. Chandler Fry at chandler.fry@duke.edu by February 3rd, 2025.
