Join us for a party to welcome renowned artist Marie T. Cochran and kick off her 2025 Visiting Artist Residency at Duke's Center for Documentary Studies (CDS).
Cochran is an influential artist/educator, cultural pollinator and the founder of the Affrilachian Artist Project, elevating the rich tapestry of Appalachian diversity and heritage. With a longstanding commitment to nurturing creative dialogue, she centers her work around fostering collaborative projects that explore cultural history and social justice.
Over the next year, Cochran will engage with Duke students, staff, faculty and the broader Triangle and North Carolina community to explore the cultural intersection of Appalachia through a series of workshops, book discussions and gatherings. Her residency will culminate in a multimedia exhibition in the Fall of 2025 to remix the award-winning novel, "Those We Thought We Knew," by David Joy, imaging it in a physical form in a gallery installation. Project participants will have hands-on opportunities to be involved with the co-curation of the exhibition.
Come and connect with Marie T. Cochran and learn more about her plans for her residency and how you can get involved! All are welcome!
If you are interested in working on this project, but are unable to attend Tuesday's event, please email docstudies@duke.edu and we will keep you updated about project plans.
