Led by the celebrated vocalist and luminary Julia Keefe (Nez Perce), the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band brings charisma, passion, and purpose to every stage-leaving audiences both inspired and educated. This all-star ensemble of Native and Indigenous jazz musicians celebrates the genre's deep Indigenous roots, performing works by trailblazers like Mildred Bailey (Coeur d'Alene) and Jim Pepper (Kaw/Mvskoke), alongside contemporary composers.
Since its 2022 debut, the band has earned national acclaim, including a featured set at the Kennedy Center's Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival. Each performance both deepens and challenges our understanding of the "uniquely American" art form known as jazz.
