Duke University Wind Symphony: We the People: Belonging?

This program traces a narrative arc from the nation's founding ideals to contemporary perspectives on identity, migration, equity, and shared civic space. Through music, this performance explores belonging not as a fixed condition, but as a process shaped by history, struggle, and collective imagination. As a uniquely American ensemble rooted in civic and educational traditions, the wind symphony offers a powerful medium through which to examine the evolving meaning of belonging in the United States and within the Duke community.

This performance is part of "We the People," a Duke and Durham collaboration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through public events that examine the nation's evolving identity. Drawing from the opening words of the Constitution, the project invites us to consider who "the people" have been and who we aspire to be within the ongoing story of the United States.
