The Akwari Society Symposium at Duke University is an annual event hosted by the Duke Department of Surgery. It honors Dr. Onyekwere E. Akwari, the first African-American surgeon on Duke's faculty and centers on holistic excellence in surgery, humanism in patient care, and mentorship.
