Chemistry Seminar Series

The Department of Chemistry is excited to host Prof. J.R Schmidt on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:40 am for a departmental seminar.

Title: Modulating the selectivity of electrocatalytic reduction in solution

Abstract:
Achieving selectivity toward a single target product is a major hurdle in electrochemical synthesis, particularly for complex reactants. Focusing first on selective 2e⁻ oxygen reduction to hydrogen peroxide, I will show how computational modeling guided the design of novel, stable metal-compound electrocatalysts and enabled microkinetic analysis of the competing 2e⁻ and 4e⁻ pathways.
