Asian American and Diaspora Studies

The Asian American Diaspora Studies (AADS) program is proud to announce its new minor degree! We are in a productive and exciting partnership with the Asian Middle Eastern Studies as our minor will be housed in their department. The Arts & Sciences Council voted unanimously on February 3rd to approve the new minor.

The minor itself will consist of five courses with one required introductory course, in which students can choose between "Introduction to Asian American History" (History/AADS 198) or 'Introduction to Asian American Diaspora Studies" (AADS 201). The other four electives are left to student discretion, but three of them must be a 200+ level course. Courses that count for the minor will be cross-listed with the AADS subject abbreviation. Another thing to note is that there is no language requirement for this minor.

After decades of tireless student activism and faculty efforts, the establishment of the AADS minor is an incredible feat. Celine Wei, member of the Asian American Studies Working Group (AASWG) and Asian American Alliance (AAA), comments, "I've taken a bunch of Asian American Studies courses at this point and it's exciting to know that there's not only the minor but also the support, faculty, and programming that comes with further institutionalization."

We'll be celebrating the new minor on April 1, 2 PM to 4 PM at Bryan Center Plaza, so please join us then. We look forward to the continual growth and development of our minor program!
