DST Faculty Candidate Seminar

Emma J. Chory, Ph.D. is a post-doctoral fellow in the Sculpting Evolution laboratory and co-advised by MIT Prof. James Collins in the departments of Biological Engineering and the Institute for Medical Science & Engineering (IMES). Her scientific career has followed an unconventional trajectory from chemical engineering to biological engineering, through chemical biology to the field of epigenetics. She received her PhD. in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University in the laboratory of Dr. Gerald Crabtree, where she applied fundamental chemical approaches to biological systems in to understand and manipulate the molecular vulnerabilities of disease. Her present research utilizes directed evolution of biosynthetic pathways in order to synthesize novel peptide therapeutics for a range of diseases. She is supported by Ruth L. Kirschstein post-doctoral fellowship from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute.
